Apple and LG. They’re not just making displays.
I have been hearing a lot about the deal between Apple and LG lately, mainly that it is a great strategic alliance, and that we can expect revamped Apple displays hitting the market soon. Frankly, I think people are being too shortsided.
Apple is not (merely) revamping their displays with LG. They are making the iTV.
I have no proof, or inside knowledge about this, but I cannot believe the tech blogs are not mentioning this. Steve Jobs has been wanting to conquer my living room for years now, and the best way to do this is to make an awesome 50” flat screen tv. If Apple came out with a beautifully designed television, you would all buy one (or at least all you fan boys would, you know it). But this alliance makes even more sense considering LG is at the forefront of Internet enabled tv’s. Apple won’t just come out with a normal tv— it will be a computer in and of itself, or at least a big version of the iPhone.
Personally, I can’t wait until I can sit on my couch with my macbook on my lap, surfing channels on my iTV, using my iPhone as a remote. Ok, even my fanboy-ness is making me sick.
